1. Johnson & Johnson Key Patent Expiration.
STELARA is the company’s largest product. It accounted for approximately 12.8% of total revenues in 2023. The United States patent of this drug expired in 2023 and the EU patent will expire in 2024.

In January 2024, the US FDA ruled that Vaporized Hydrogen Peroxide is a safe and establish method of sterilization for medical devices which also aligns with ESG considerations.

3. The UK Voluntary Pricing Access & Growth Scheme (VPAG) Begins.
VPAG is a 5 year pricing agreement for branded medicine signed by the UK Government and the UK Pharmaceutical Industry Body. It starts on 1 January 2024 and will be in place for 5 years until 31 December 2028.

4. Novo Nordisk’s Ozempic Patent Expiration In China.
Reuter’s reports, “Novo’s patents in China on Ozempic and related drug Wegovy are set to expire in 2026, according to its annual report. Ozempic became the world’s best-selling diabetes drug last year.
Novo’s Ozempic sales in China more than doubled last year to 4.8 billion Danish crowns ($694 million), accounting for 5% of global Ozempic sales of 95.7 billion crowns.
As a result, cheap copies of Ozempic in Asia’s largest market could dampen demand for Wegovy, which Novo plans to launch in China this year.”
5. Carbon Reduction Requirements For NHS Suppliers
The National Health System (NHS) in the U.K. established a goal to achieve to net zero by 2045 for all emissions it can influence in its supply chain.
Starting in April 2023, the NHS requires that all suppliers of goods and services with NHS contracts above GBP 5 million publish a carbon reduction plan for their direct emissions.
